Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE's) are sometimes referred to as Work Evaluations or Work Assessments as we assess the client’s physical, cognitive, emotional and social function and compare it to the requirements of the job. It is a thorough and comprehensive evaluation and may take up to four hours.

In cases with very specific work environments, the assessment can be carried out on the work site to ensure that the context of the job is fully understood and considered in the recommendations.

An FCE can result in recommendations regarding:

  • Return to work

  • Accommodations and/or adaptations

  • Further treatment or a work hardening programme

  • Retraining with the aim of alternative employment

  • Medical separation

These recommendations will be fully documented in a detailed report that can be used for insurance claims.

In order for us to do a thorough evaluation we need as much background as possible. Therefore we will request the following documentation to be submitted before the appointment:

  • Full medical history of client

  • Job description and/or job person specification/ OREP

Job Analysis
Job Analysis

A detailed Job Analysis entails the investigation and recording of the physical, cognitive, emotional and social demands of the job as well as taking the inherent and environmental risks and hazards into consideration. This enables:

  • The formulation of comprehensive job descriptions

  • Better job-person fit when recruiting

  • The designing of accurate Person-Job Specifications or Occupational Risk Exposure Profiles & Functional Job Requirements for different job categories.

  • Ultimately it leads to more accurate FCE outcomes as the components of the job are better defined.

Work visits
Work visits

Work visits can be of value in a number of circumstances.

When an employee has been injured or suffers from a debilitating disease we can visit the work place and assist the employer with a number of possible issues:

  • Implement adaptions to enable the employee to return to his job

  • Recommend accommodations that will be necessary for him/her to perform his/her duties

  • Discuss and implement a gradual return to work programme.

  • Assist the employer in finding a temporary or permanent alternative job within the company.

Work fitness
Work fitness

In a number of companies the Health & Safety policies require regular work fitness evaluation of their employees.

We are qualified to design and execute a battery of tests that are specifically tailored to the job requirement of your employees.

After analyzing the job to determine the key demands, we will select the measures.

These test will determine if the employee complies to the physical demands of his job and are a vital part in preventing injuries on duty.

Fitness to Drive
Fitness to Drive

If there is a concern about a persons ability to drive a vehicle on public roads due to an injury, illness or advanced age, we can assess the persons fitness to drive and give a research backed opinion on the matter.

If the concern arises due to a physical disability, we can refer the client to a reputable person who can adapt vehicles to compensate for the partial loss of function.

Should you be concerned if a loved senior citizen should still be driving, we can help you in making the difficult decision in this regard.

PGAP
PGAP

The Progressive Goal Attainment Program was developed by the University Centre for Research on Pain and Disability at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. PGAP™ is an evidence-based treatment program for reducing disability associated with pain, depression, cancer and other chronic health conditions. The primary goals of PGAP™ are to reduce psychosocial barriers to rehabilitation progress, promote re-integration into life-role activities, increase quality of life, and facilitate return-to-work. These goals are achieved through targeted treatment of psychosocial risk factors, structured activity scheduling, graded-activity involvement, goal-setting, problem-solving, and motivational enhancement. PGAP is a cost-effective, standardized program which can be tailored to each client through its modular approach to treatment. Clients meet one-on-one with the occupational therapist during 10 weekly sessions. Initial treatment sessions focus on increasing activity participation while later sessions focus on one of three modules which address the psychosocial barriers to the client’s return to increased function.
